Municipal Services
Which company provides garbage services to residents?
Our garbage services are provided by Waste Management. Fees for garbage collection are included in the monthly municipal services bills sent by the borough. Residents are permitted to put out up to three cans. All garbage must be in bags.
What items are prohibited in weekly garbage collections?
Waste Management will not collect the following items during regular trash pickup:
Appliances
TVs and electronics
Household furniture
Scrap metal
Tires
Hazardous household waste—such as batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, paint and paint cans, used motor oil and filters, and prescription medications.
How can I dispose of bulk trash or large items such as furniture?
Applewold Borough usually has two annual bulk clean-up days (in the spring and fall) when large items or extra bags can be collected. Certain restrictions still apply. Contact Waste Management if you have any questions about what can be collected during these special pick-ups.
Is there recycling in the borough?
Applewold Borough does not offer curbside recycling pickup at this time. Normally there is a community recycling trailer located at the south end of the borough near the corner of Allegheny Avenue and Hickory Street. This trailer had to be temporarily removed to facilitate utility work, but we hope to return it to this location soon.
In the meantime, residents can drop recyclable materials at the Armstrong Recycling Center located at 139 Armsdale Road, Kittanning, PA 16201.
