Garbage

Garbage services are provided by Waste Management. Fees for garbage collection are included in the monthly municipal services bills sent by the borough.

Collection day in the borough is MONDAY. If the collection day falls on a major holiday, it is collected the following day.

*NEW IN 2025*

WM will provide each residence with one 96-gallon trash collection cart. All garbage must be bagged. No materials outside the cart will be collected. Trash carts should be placed at the collection point after 6 p.m. the night before your scheduled collection or before 6 a.m. on garbage day.

Extra carts are available for an additional monthly fee. Please contact the borough if you feel you need more than one collection container.

Please note: It is unlawful to place, throw, store, accumulate, or maintain trash within the borough of Applewold. This includes paper, boxes, debris, lumber, furniture, appliances, and all other trash. Prohibited items will not be collected.

Hazardous Household Waste (HHW) Collection

Beginning in January 2025, all Applewold residents will have access to the WM at-home E-Waste and Hazardous Waste Collection service.  This is an unlimited service providing a safe, convenient, sustainable solution for disposing of hazardous household waste, electronics, and hard-to-recycle items without leaving home. Some restrictions apply.

Schedule your home collection at WMAtYourDoor.com.

This trailer is equipped to receive ONLY: newspapers/magazines (including junk mail and paperboard), steel and aluminum cans, and #1 or #2 plastic bottles and jugs. Please remove caps and rinse/flatten containers. No bags. NO GLASS IS ACCEPTED AT THIS LOCATION.

PLEASE  DO NOT ABUSE THIS PRIVILEGE!

This area is not a community dumpster. Do not leave household trash or other non-accepted items. Do not leave ANYTHING on the ground surrounding the trailer. Violators subject to littering fines up to $300.

For questions or concerns about recycling, please contact the Armstrong Recycling Center at (724) 919-8594.

Additional materials, such as corrugated cardboard and glass bottles, are recyclable only at the Recycling Center located at 139 Armsdale Road, Kittanning, PA 16201.

Your Monthly Bill

Each month, residents receive a bill from the borough for garbage and municipal services. These fees fund the services necessary for the borough to maintain clean, safe spaces for residents, including garbage collection, police patrols, and code enforcement.

Bills are mailed at the beginning of each month. The current rate is $15/month for garbage and $10/month for municipal services. Payments are due on the 18th and may be paid by mail, in person during office hours, or using the drop box outside the borough building. Any unpaid balance will incur a late fee of $2.

Electronic Bill Pay

You can now use Zelle to pay your monthly garbage bills. Zelle is a FREE service through your online banking app. Once your account is set up, just use our email address (applewoldboro@windstream.net) to direct your payment. To assist with processing, please include your three-digit account number in the "Reason" field when you submit your payment.

Alternately, residents can set up an automatic bill pay directly with their bank, which will send the payment to us each month at no cost.

Paperless Billing

We are looking for a small group of volunteers to test electronic delivery of municipal bills. If the test proves successful, we will begin to offer this as an option for interested residents. Paper bills will continue to be sent to anyone who does not select electronic delivery.

If you would like to join our volunteer group, send your name, account number, and preferred email to secretary@applewoldboro.com.
