Garbage + Recycling
Applewold Borough > Municipal Services > Garbage + Recycling
Garbage
Garbage services are provided by Waste Management. Fees for garbage collection are included in the monthly municipal services bills sent by the borough.
Collection day in the borough is MONDAY. If the collection day falls on a major holiday, it is collected the following day. Residents are permitted to put out up to three cans. All garbage must be bagged. The borough has two bulk clean-up days (spring and fall) when large items or extra bags can be collected.
Please note: It is unlawful to place, throw, store, accumulate, or maintain trash within the borough of Applewold. This includes all paper, boxes, debris, lumber, furniture, appliances, and all other trash. Prohibited items will not be collected.
Additional materials, such as corrugated cardboard and glass bottles, are recyclable only at the Recycling Center located at 139 Armsdale Road, Kittanning, PA 16201.
Recycling
Applewold Borough does not offer curbside recycling pickup at this time. There is a community recycling trailer located at the south end of the borough near the corner of Allegheny Avenue and Hickory Street.
This trailer is equipped to receive ONLY: newspapers/magazines (including junk mail and paperboard), steel and aluminum cans, and #1 or #2 plastic bottles and jugs. Please remove caps and rinse/flatten containers. No bags. NO GLASS IS ACCEPTED AT THIS LOCATION.
PLEASE DO NOT ABUSE THIS PRIVILEGE!
This area is not a community dumpster. Do not leave household trash or other non-accepted items. Do not leave ANYTHING on the ground surrounding the trailer. Violators subject to littering fines up to $300.
For questions or concerns about recycling, please contact the Armstrong Recycling Center at (724) 919-8594.
Your Monthly Bill
Each month, residents receive a bill from the borough for municipal services. These fees fund the services necessary for the borough to maintain clean, safe spaces for residents, including garbage collection, police patrols, and code enforcement.
Bills are mailed at the beginning of each month. The current rate is $25/month. Payments are due on the 18th and may be paid by mail, in person during office hours, or using the drop box outside the borough building. Any unpaid balance will incur a late fee of $2.
Electronic Bill Pay NOW AVAILABLE!
You can now use Zelle to pay your monthly garbage bills. Zelle is a FREE service through your online banking app. Once your account is set up, just use our email address (applewoldboro@windstream.net) to direct your payment. To assist with processing, please include your three-digit account number in the "Reason" field when you submit your payment.
You can also set up an automatic bill pay directly with your bank, and they will send your payment to us each month at no cost to you.
Paperless Billing
We are looking for a small group of volunteers to test electronic delivery of municipal bills. If the test proves successful, we will begin to offer this as an option for interested residents. Paper bills will continue to be sent to anyone who does not select electronic delivery.
If you would like to join our volunteer group, send your name, account number, and preferred email to secretary@applewoldboro.com.
